Tasting Room Sales Associate Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Tasting Room Sales Associate is responsible for creating a memorable guest experience at our captivating property while maximizing wine sales and enlisting new club members.  In addition to working behind the tasting bar and educating our customers the sales associates may also be asked to assist in customer service on the telephone or act as the host/greeter for visitors arriving at the winery.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Must have a passion for wine.
  • Work Tasting bar which includes greeting and welcoming customers, serving and educating with wine samples, answering questions and offering suggestions.
  • Knowledge of all Potomac Point wines, tasting sheet and basics of wine making process.
  • Tasting Room Sales Associate is responsible for efficiently and effectively promoting Potomac Point Winery, the sale of wine and non-wine products through customer service and providing consumers with a meaningful tasting and experience.
  • Acknowledge club members and perform tastings using club glasses
  • Be able to explain Potomac Point wines and history behind Potomac Point Winery.
  • Handle routine sales transactions using the winery point of sales system including starting tabs, closing open tabs and making sales of wine and merchandise.
  • Ensures cleanliness of all glassware by inspecting and polishing when necessary.
  • Good time management skills with the ability to focus on balancing customer interaction while letting the guest enjoy the experience themselves.
  • Effectively promotes and sells wines and wine club memberships to customers.
  • Promotes the Bistro and has knowledge of individual dishes and can make recommendations regarding pairings that go along with those dishes.
  • Knowledge of all wine club benefits and sells to the exclusivity of our wine club and the offerings that make us stand out from other wine clubs.
  • Meeting sales objectives for both wine sales and club memberships during given quarters of the year.
  • Keeping track of retail merchandise and space assuring that the area is clean, organized, and stocked. If product levels are low or missing alerting the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager.
  • Takes the initiative for self-development in the areas of our wines, our brand, general hospitality and for acquiring effective sales techniques.
  • Ensures that every visitor enjoys their wine tasting experience and leaves with a very high impression of our wines and establishment.
  • Opening and Closing duties including but not limited to; stocking, cleaning and properly storing all open wines.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40-45 pounds.
  • Ability to be on feet standing for extended periods of time, up to ten hours.
  • Responsible for keeping up with weekly changes to menus, wines, events, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Le Grand Cru Bistro Server:

Job Summary:

Le Grand Cru proudly employs a team of professionals with a passion for food, wine and hospitality!  The position of Bistro Server is dedicated to exceeding expectations of winery guests, and to ensure the highest level of service is consistently provided. Teamwork is the key to success in providing a warm and personal experience.  The Server’s role will be to provide excellent guest service in a team environment.  Excellent service comes from knowledge of our food and ability to recommend wines that make a perfect combination and experience!

Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Report for your shift in proper attire, on time and ready to work
  • Promote and maintain a positive working relationship at all times with all the colleagues of Le Grand Cru & Potomac Point Winery
  • Follow all departmental policies, procedures and set service standards as outlined in the Bistro Training Manual
  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and warm hospitality to all guests
  • Attend all required training sessions and be aware if any food menu or wine list changes
  • To have full and complete knowledge of the menus and Potomac Point wine list. To know about menu items, ingredients, preparation methods and garnishes for all dishes. To be able to guide the guest through the menu and make any suggestions or recommendations in the guests’ best interest, as well as recommend appropriate wine pairing. To be able to answer any guest question about food items, beverages and wines in an informative and helpful way.
  • Capable of operating the companies point of sales system
  • Ability to perform common register functions such as but not limited to opening tabs, adding merchandise and closing tabs
  • Acknowledge club members and be sure to apply appropriate discounts
  • Able to explain and sell the benefits of being a club member
  • Ensure that all work areas and stations are kept clean and tidy at all times
  • Perform all opening, side, and closing duties, as well as weekly duties to the set standards
  • Attend pre-shift and all other assigned meetings in order to be well informed about all upcoming events, promotions and other news concerning Le Grand Cru & Potomac Point Winery
  • Be an ambassador for Le Grand Cru & Potomac Point Winery by promoting products, specials, upcoming events and wine club benefits to all guests
  • Ability to work on your feet in a fast paced environment for long periods of time
  • Excellent communication skills among all team members including kitchen staff is a must
  • Able to maintain a calm demeanor during busy and stressful times
  • Responsible for remaining informed to weekly operational changes that impact your direct position and the winery as a whole
  • Other duties as assigned

Customer Service Representative Job Description:

Job Summary:

This position is the first impression for the guest upon arrival and is an integral part of the tasting team.  Responsible for warmly greeting all guests, receiving guests with appointments as well as wine club members.  Also responsible for majority of financial transactions for wine purchases, Bistro tabs and guests making retail purchases.  Answering incoming phone calls and returning messages to potential guests in a timely and informative manner.  Making sure that each guest leaves with a positive impression of Potomac Point Winery.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Professional and friendly demeanor as well as a professional appearance
  • Ability to problem solve at a moment’s notice
  • Commitment to excellence in hospitality and customer service
  • Ability to operate a Point of Sales system and handle monetary transactions
  • Good communication skills both in person and over the phone
  • Ability to multitask
  • Capable of relaying and communicating clear and concise phone messages to the appropriate department
  • Must either have previous knowledge of wines or interested in learning specifically about Potomac Point Wines and wines in general
  • Comfortable operating under busy and sometimes hectic circumstances with numerous guests requiring attention at one time
  • Able to clearly explain different tasting options and knowledge of wines within each option
  • Notifying guests of any special events going on that day such as tours, sales, live music etc.
  • Keep front area stocked with all bags, boxes, brochures and event sheets
  • Promote upcoming events at the winery as guests are leaving and ensure that all guests receive an upcoming events sheet in their bag
  • Assist customers requiring help with olive oil bar while also making sure that area is kept clean and organized
  • Monitor appearance of retail items and re-stock if needed or make manager aware of items that are either sold out of that you can’t find
  • Identify and acknowledge club members and first-time visitors to the winery
  • Comfortable with making recommendations and ability to upsell and close out a sale as you are the final opportunity before a guest leaves the winery
  • Making sure that any issues a guest may have are resolved by a manager before they leave
  • General knowledge of our Bistro menu and ability to answer questions and make recommendations to guests
  • Responsible for knowing about all changes and updates shared via email and postings
  • Other duties as assigned
